Sanitary pads and inner wears

Sanitary pads and inner wears

A study in Kenya found that 95 percent of menstruating girls missed one to three school days, 70 percent reported a negative impact on their grades, and more than 50 percent stated falling behind in school because of menstruation (Mucherah and Thomas 2017).

Poor menstrual hygiene can lead to risks such as urinary tract infections and adverse effects on reproductive health.  Most girls and women in marginalized areas do not have the ability to afford sanitary towels and even under garments. This causes psychological stress and discomfort affecting their well-being as they are not able to move on with their day-to-day activities when they have their menses. In some cases this may lead to shame as a result of stigma.

At Kwetu, we endeavour to ensure learners do not undergo such experiences due to menstruation. We have several donors who have donated sanitary pads and under garments and these were distributed to the girls during the Mentorship program launch. We continue encouraging more donors to support with sanitary pads in order to help these girls have a much more comfortable life.
